Time to Harvest Colostrum

Updated: Feb 1, 2019

This is a little video to explain what harvesting colostrum is and better still how to do it! Whether you choose to breastfeed or not, this is a great tool to have prepared to take the weight of your shoulders. Great if you know your baby might be unwell at birth or if you suspect there may be a chance of some separation following birth.

If you harvest colostrum yet never need it then that’s a great outcome but don’t forget - colostrum is a great skin healer as it is packed full of immunological properties to line babies gut. It is also fantastic for soothing nappy rash, nipple trauma and even amazing for anti-aging! I recommended to start harvesting colostrum from week 37 of pregnancy but please discuss this with your care provider.

Colostrum can be frozen following collection and then must be used within 24 hours of being thawed.
